The Ergonomics of  Yu-Ju,Wang (2023)

Clay, found objects, vinyl sheet

Dimensions variable

Wang Yu-Ju’s Ergonomics “privatizes” everyday objects — transforming standardized items into personal interpretations and uses. Through manual interventions such as pressing, deforming, and pulling, objects that once followed ergonomic logic deviate from industrial design and become traces of individuality.

Displayed in an IKEA-like setting, these distorted tableware pieces contrast mass production’s depersonalization with handmade intimacy. The work questions whether, as products become ever more ergonomic, people might be losing their own sense of perception and choice.
